Secondary Schools Drug & Alcohol Awareness Program
Secondary Schools Drug & Alcohol Awareness Program
Hope for Recovery within Secondary Schools
The HFR resources have been adapted to produce a 'Drugs and Alcohol Awareness' package for use within secondary schools with a target audience of S4/S5/S6 pupils.
The materials are delivered over 4 (50 minute) lessons with each lesson following the format below:
📖 Lesson Structure:
- 'This is my Story' – A member of the HFR team with lived experience shares their personal story explaining: what led them into addiction; the impact addiction had on them; how they escaped from addiction; their hopes for the future.
- Q&A Session – Pupils are invited to ask questions and discuss the team member's 'story' with them.
- Health and Wellbeing Workshop – Pupils are placed in small groups and supported by a team member to discuss and complete a worksheet on the relevant HWB topic. Pupils are encouraged to feedback their findings to the class before a summary of the main 'take-away' points is provided.
The HWB workshops covered over the 4 lessons are entitled:
🌱 Root Causes of Addiction
🧘 Stress Management
🙏 Gratitude is the Best Attitude
💪 Alternative Responses to Challenging Events
